Longtime Director Of Funeral Home In Suffolk Dies

A longtime owner and director of a Long Island funeral home has died at the age of 89.

David A. D’Andrea, of Copiague, formerly of Babylon, and the co-owner of the D'Andrea Brothers Funeral Home in Suffolk County died on Tuesday, March 8.

Born and raised in Amityville, D'Andrea graduated from Amityville High School and went on to serve in the US Navy, said his obituary.

He earned his license in mortuary science at Simmons Institute of Funeral Service in Syracuse and in 1957 opened D’Andrea Brothers Funeral Home in Copiague, a business that he ran with his brother Richard for more than 30 years, his obituary said.

D’Andrea is survived by his wife, Leeann, his three daughters, Mary Joy and her husband Daniel Oill, Donna and her husband George Cornell and Lisa and her husband Kriss Gulbrandsen, all of Amityville; his son, David and his wife Lisa of Copiague, his grandchildren, Daniel, Jaclyn, Teddy, Olivia, Kristofer, Sophia, Lily, and Reanna; as well as his brother, Gilbert and his wife Meredith of Islip and his sister-in-law, Virginia of Amityville.

Friends and relatives will gather on Friday, March 11, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at D’Andrea Bros. Funeral Home, 99 Oak St. in Copiague. 

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 12 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Martin of Tours RC Church in Amityville, interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in D’Andrea’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 300 Broadhollow Rd, Suite LL 100, Melville, NY 11747.
