Emergency crews were called just after 8 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24 after reports of a blaze at a two-story home in Islip, located on Boston Avenue near Brook Street, according to the Deer Park Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived, they found the home fully engulfed in flames. Crews also reported “Collyers’ Mansion” conditions, a firefighting term used to describe homes that are so full of trash and debris that it slows down emergency responders.

Firefighters eventually located a woman close to the front door. She later died from her injuries, according to fire officials. No other injuries were reported.

“The extreme clutter condition hampered fire operations,” the department said in a statement.

Crews from several fire departments responded to the scene. The fire was deemed under control after about 90 minutes, officials said.

Authorities have not released the woman’s name. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
