A potential kidnapping and assault investigation on Long Island was a hoax, police said.
Crime Stoppers and the Nassau County Police Department issued an alert on Thursday, Jan. 23, as they sought the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect who was wanted in connection to an assault and possible kidnapping in Hempstead.
Police said that shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, a man in a dark hooded sweatshirt followed his alleged victim from McDonald’s on Peninsula Boulevard in Hempstead.
According to police, the suspect, along with at least two others, were spotted on video surveillance punching and kicking their victim, throwing him to the ground and stomping his head before throwing him into the trunk of a car. The group then fled on North Franklin Street.
On Friday, Jan. 24, the Nassau County Police Department issued a release saying that the entire incident was "deemed a hoax." No other details were released.
