Brayan Castano, age 33, of Queens, was part of a group who stole or tried to steal from eight houses in Old Westbury, Manhasset, Jericho and Woodbury from May 2018 to September 2018, the office reports. Some of the stolen items included money, jewelry and designer handbags.

The group specifically chose gated communities with one entrance and exit and would often hit up the neighborhoods on Friday or Saturday night, the office reports. Castano and the crew commonly entered the homes by breaking rear windows or doors.

Castano was previously convicted on seven counts of burglary, attempted burglary in the second degree and possession of burglar tools in October 2021, the office reports. Co-defendant Andres Zapata, age 24, is facing up to 15 years in prison on for similar convictions.
