Man Killed During Single-Vehicle Suffolk County Crash

One man was killed during a single-vehicle crash on Long Island.

It happened around 1:23 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 3, in Southampton on Noyack Road between Majors Path and Straight Path.

When officers responded to the scene, they found a 2012 Ford F350 landscaping truck crashed into a wooded area off the roadway, said Southampton Police Lt. Susan Ralph.

Patrol Units shut the roadway down for more than an hour while Southampton Town Police Detectives conducted the investigation.

The driver, identified as Anthony “Tony” Abbey, 49, of North Sea, was headed eastbound on Noyack Road when he left the roadway struck a road sign, and then struck a tree and wedged between two more, Ralph said.

First responders were finally able to get to Abbey and started to perform CPR. 

He was transported to Southampton Hospital by Southampton Volunteer Ambulance where he was pronounced dead. 

Southampton Town Police Detectives are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.
