The incident took place around 6 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 22 in Shoreham on the William Floyd Parkway.

According to Suffolk County Police, Patrick D’Amico was driving a 2012 Subaru on southbound William Floyd Parkway when his vehicle struck the rear of a 2015 Ford pickup truck.

The truck, which had hazard and flashing yellow lights activated, was traveling at a slow speed, partially in the left lane, as part of weed mitigation by Suffolk County Department of Public Works employees.

D’Amico, 28, of Rocky Point, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The pickup’s driver, Louis Gallo, and passenger, Samuel Carreras, were not injured, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
