The two-vehicle crash took place in Hewlett around 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 31, on Peninsula Boulevard, said the Nassau County Police.

According to detectives, a 2017 Mercedes Benz traveling northbound on Peninsula Boulevard was making a left turn onto Harris Avenue when it collided with a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck, which was traveling southbound on Peninsula Boulevard. 

The driver of the Mercedes, an 85-year-old man now identified as Bertram Wolf, 85, of Floral Park, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead by hospital emergency medical staff, police said.

The operator of the Dodge pick up, a 77-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital where he is in serious condition. 

The investigation is ongoing.
