Aptly named for the god of dreams Morpheus Restaurant in Bellmore highlights recipes that has been past down for generations from Greek island of Chios.

There are familiar dishes as Moussaka of layered potatoes, chopped beef, eggplant baked in a bechamel sauce and Athenian Shrimp, which has a light tomato sauce and comes topped with feta cheese.

Falafel Platter, Pastitsio and beef, lamb or chicken gyro or chicken, pork or shrimp kebab are options; and you might try Filet of Sole cooked in lemon, olive oil, garlic or Shrimp Scampi sauteed in olive oil, white wine, lemon, garlic, basil, and scallion.

"Morpheus was the god of dreams and the leader of the Oneiroi, the god or spirit of dreams. Morpheus was the god responsible for the dreams and had the amazing ability to appear in dreams of morals in any form," owner Marc Kallman said.

Features here include a kitchen open late, to 10 p.m. and specials like "Date Night" Tuesdays.

"Went to Morpheus in Bellmore for dinner tonight after craving some Greek food. Can not rave enough! First time there and the food was absolutely delicious. They start you with some pita and chickpea salad before even taking the order. We had a gyro, Greek salad, and chicken souvlaki with French fries. Everything was super fresh and full of flavor," said Jaclyn F. of Merrick on Yelp.

Marky H., of Merrick on Yelp, says, "The tzatziki was homemade and was great with the pita. I had the special, sole almondine. It was so fresh and not loaded down with butter. Excellent choice."

Morpheus is  located at 2601 Merrick Rd., Bellmore.
