Whether before dinner cocktails or out for the nightlife tip your glass at these five places in Suffolk County.

The Checkmate Inn, 94 N. County Road, Setauket: This is a 1800s neighborhood bar in a residential area with an online fan base based on good reviews on Yelp and Facebook.

"It's charming, houses the most chill vibe of any open mic on the island every Sunday. People come in thinking they are watching a paid live band. A five-dollar Guinness is a well-priced Guinness, especially from someone who knows how to pour and they do," Jenn Woodason of Patchogue told Daily Voice.

Whales Tale, 81 Fort Salonga Road, Northport: It's an outdoor restaurant and indoor bar with a nautical theme located centrally located by the village's entrance on a yacht marina.

Lisa Scarantino Lalli on the Long Island Food & Drink Facebook group page added it to a list of places when Daily Voice asked about singles bars though this is for anyone.

So what did we order, just about everything on the drink menu? You can't go wrong! The rocket fuel was made perfectly and cooled me off. The butterfly- another very cool purple drink choice. We went through the whole drink menu- fantastic," posted Melissa V. of Westbury on Yelp.

Off Key Tiki, 31 Baker Place, Patchogue: Waterfront tiki bar on the Patchogue River with cabanas and a sandy setting. It has live entertainment and tropical drinks. A bonus is that it's walking distance from the LIRR station.

Sean V. of Astoria posted on Yelp, "Great Jimmy Buffett style vibe with singing and guitar, and was a lot of fun, personable with the crowd, and top-notch song selections from '60s-'80s".

Pentimento Restaurant, 93 Main St., Stony Brook: Popular Italian restaurant known for its seasonal cocktails, extensive wine list, and great social atmosphere. A specialty this week is "Willie's Superbrew" made with hard seltzer, pomegranate, and açaí.

In a Google review, Brett Bar, a Google Local Guide said in a review, "The happy hour is off the charts" and "All the bartenders care big time."

Blackstone Steakhouse, 10 Pinelawn Road, Melville: They got a few mentions in the same Facebook group. Here you can have your cocktails in an outdoor lounge area with comfy seating or at a spacious bar. There's happy hour daily from 3 to 6 p.m.

Brian H. of Melville on Yelp posted, "If you're on here to find out about the night life come and experience Thursday nights. The crowd is typically 40 plus and diverse and people really get down dancing to the fine music played by the DJ. Come eat delicious food and have some fun."
