Special Olympics In Poughkeepsie Seeks Volunteers To Cheer On Athletes

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Special Olympics Winter Games, which will be at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, is looking for social volunteers.

The games will be Feb. 19 and 20.

More than a thousand athletes and coaches will travel to the Games from all across New York State. 

Many families can’t make the trip, so the Special Olympics needs the community to be at the competitions to watch, cheer and light the fire within these champions to help them win the gold.

The opening ceremonies will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19. 

Athletic Competitions will be held all day on Saturday, Feb. 20, beginning at 8 a.m., including Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing, Figure Skating, Floor Hockey and Snowshoe in Dutchess and Orange. Closing Ceremonies are Saturday, Feb. 20, at 8 p.m. at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center. 

The 18th annual Polar Plunge will be held at Sharpe Reservation's Camp Mariah in Fishkill the next day.
