DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - The Science Department at Our Lady of Lourdes has been awarded a grant from Verizon for a hydroponic center.
The students will engage in hydroponic farming, growing plants in a nutrient-rich, water infused environment. Students will gain firsthand knowledge how experimenting with water quality, lighting and other conditions will help students adapt to the changing world of food production and sustainable living, Lourdes said.
"It will...give students, especially visual learning students, a better understanding of these processes and genetics as a whole," science teacher John Herles said.
