The orchestra submitted a recording last year and was accepted to compete on Friday, March 3, in Pittsburgh, Pa., against more than 20 other orchestras from all over the country, according to a release from the Arlington Central School District. Three prestigious performers/educators adjudicated the orchestras.
The two wining orchestras performed for the entire festival and conference during the closing ceremonies.
They performed for a full house and received an enthusiastic standing ovation, the release said.
Handman congratulated all of the hardworking students, the Arlington Symphony Orchestra parent organization who helped organize the trip, the district orchestra directors, and the Arlington Central School District community for its support.
The community is invited to see the award-winning Philharmonia, in its full symphonic configuration, along with the other Arlington High School Orchestras on Friday, March 17, at 7:00 p.m. at the annual POPS concert in the William J. Sweeney Auditorium at Arlington High School.
