Dutchess County Sheriff Capt. John Watterson said that there was a fatal motorcycle crash at approximately 2:50 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 near the intersection of Overlook Road and Alvin Court in LaGrange.

Two days later, at approximately 5:50 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a fatal one-vehicle off-road crash in Amenia.

Watterson said that the driver of the motorcycle in the earlier crash, Poughkeepsie resident Nicholas Giguere was traveling west on Overlook Road when he lost control around a curve, crashing into a guardrail.

It is believed that speed was a factor in Giguere being unable to maintain his lane of travel.

Giguere, 37, was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead.

In the second crash, Watterson said that Amenia resident Matthew Hadley crashed at the Benson Farm on Poplar Hill Road. Investigators said that Hadley was operating his 2018 Jeep in a field when he lost control and was partially ejected.

The preliminary investigation determined that Hadley was driving recklessly and without a seatbelt.

Hadley, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene.
