The incident took place around 7 p.m. when a person driving a vehicle hit the man as he walked along Route 52, said Town of Fishkill Police Lt. Keith Dworkin.

The man suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to the hospital, he added.

The crash took place near Shirley Avenue and Summit Court, while both the pedestrian and the driver were traveling eastbound.

State police worked for several hours to reconstruct the accident due to the severity of the injuries, Dworkin said.

The driver was not injured, his passenger received glass in the eyes from a broken windshield, police said.

Dworkin did not have the identities of all involved to release.

No charges have been filed as the collision is still under investigation, he said.
