Bicyclist Killed In Town Of Poughkeepsie Crash Near Food Mart, Police Say

The crash took place around 6:35 p.m., Monday, Aug. 12, on Vassar Road, near the Dimpy's Food Mart at 401 Vassar Road, said the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Lt. Michael O’Dowd.

During the crash, a 2010 Honda, operated by a 63-year-old Poughkeepsie resident, struck a 41-year-old bicyclist, also of Poughkeepsie, O'Dowd said.

The bicyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office. 

The driver of the Honda did not sustain any injuries, O'Dowd said.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted at the scene by members of the New York State Police, Arlington Fire District, and Mobile Life Support. 

A portion of Vassar Road was closed while crash investigators processed the scene. The roadway was reopened to traffic at 12:30 a.m.
