Thomas O. Dodge Jr., 81, Former Poughkeepsie Resident

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Thomas O. Dodge Jr., formerly of Poughkeepsie, died Thursday, June 2.

Born May 24, 1935, in Johnson City, he was the son of the late Thomas O. and Vivian (Hilligas) Dodge. He moved to Poughkeepsie in 1974, where he resided until 1995. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves for 12 years. He worked in various IBM locations during his 30-year career. He retired in 1993.

On April 24, 1954, he married his first wife, Dawn M. Bulger. She preceded him in death in 1993. On July 21, 1995 in Wappingers Falls, he married Marianne Yamen Lewis Dodge, who survives at home. After their marriage, they retired to Surfside Beach, S.C. He was a member of the boys' and men’s choirs at St. James Church in Johnson City. He enjoyed fishing and bowling and was a member of the Garden City Liars Club. In his retirement, he worked on the Garden City Pier and drove the Tupelo Bay bus.

In addition to his wife, Marianne, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Stephen and Jean Dodge of Poughkeepsie, Lynn Dodge of Sidney, William and Carol Dodge of Hyde Park, Michael Dodge of Albany, Pam and Ron McHugh of Pleasant Valley, Dawn McKenzie and her fiancé, John Rauschbach, of Lagrange, Debra and Michael Ryan of Saranac Lake, and Buck Lewis of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; his grandchildren, Russell Dodge, Allysia Dodge, Brianna Dodge, Britney McHugh, Mark McHugh, Erin Ryan and Kilian Ryan; his brothers and their spouses, Edward and Deb Dodge and David and Fran Dodge; and many other family members and good friends.

In addition to his first wife and parents, he was predeceased by four brothers, Robert, Joseph, Dennis and James Dodge.

Calling hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, with the funeral service at 6 p.m. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
