POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Robert A. Rainville, a resident of Poughkeepsie, died Tuesday, May 24. He was 87.
He was born Jan.30, 1929, in Springfield, Mass., to Alphonse Rainville and Columbienne Giveau.
A lifelong aviation enthusiast, he was discharged from the National Guard of Massachusetts to enlist in the U.S. Air Force where he last served in Germany with the 2nd Radio Squadron Mobile. Following his honorable discharge, he worked at IBM for 25 years retiring from an accounting position.
While working at IBM, he got his private pilot’s license as well as his commercial pilot’s rating and volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol teaching ground school.
On June 17, 1972, he married Theodora “Teddy” Britton.
He is survived by his wife, Theodora; his sister-in-law, Edith Perkins of North Port, Fla.; and brother-in-law, Clarence Britton.
Visitation will be Friday, May 27 from 4-7 p.m. at Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 28, at 10 a.m. from the funeral home. Interment will follow in Freedom Plains Cemetery.
