BLAUVELT, N.Y. – Sister Mary Eileen O'Rourke, of Blauvelt, died July 14. She was 81.
O'Rourke was born to Geraldine Prendergast and Timothy O’Rourke on March 25, 1935 in the Bronx, joining the Sisters of St. Dominic in 1953 and earning a bachelor's degree in education from Dominican College.
She went on to teach at various schools in the Bronx and Yonkers before becoming a coordinator at local homes and retiring from active ministry in 2009.
O'Rourke was predeceased by her parents and is survived by two brothers, Thomas of California and Timothy of White Plains; sister Eileen Sottung of Florida; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 9-10:15 a.m. Tuesday at St. Dominic's Convent, 496 Western Highway, Blauvelt, with a Mass of Christian burial following.
Interment will follow at the convent's cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Sisters of St. Dominic in Blauvelt.
