Lulu Roberta Lawrence, 77, Of Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Lulu Roberta Lawrence, a lifelong Poughkeepsie resident, died Saturday, Feb. 25. She was 77.

Lawrence was born in 1939 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie to the late Chester G. and Indiana M. Penfield. She was the seventh of 12 children.

Lawrence attended Poughkeepsie High School. Her favorite sport was track and field.

She worked at the Mid-Hudson Workshop, Inc. in Poughkeepsie for 35 years.

Lawrence was also a Jehovah’s Witness for 46 years.

She is survived by six siblings: Chester Gleason Penfield Jr., Gladys Stroman, Laura B. Penfield, Linda Penfield, all of Poughkeepsie; Genny McNair of New Jersey, and Shirley Fox of Ohio.

Also surviving are her two children, Claudette M. Lawrence and Corey K. Lawrence, both of Poughkeepsie; nine grandchildren, Nahshon Harvard, Ryan Lawrence, Rayne McNeil, Savannah Lawrence, Jayden Lawrence, and Sanaya Lawrence, all of Poughkeepsie; Todd Johnson of New York City; and Cori Renee Lawrence and Devin Lawrence of Virginia; four great-grandchildren, Jazlyn Harvard, Nyaira Harvard, Jaquel Harvard, and Nahshon Harvard, Jr., all of Poughkeepsie; and many nieces and nephews.

Lawrence was predeceased by four sisters, Marion Cave (Raford), Ruthie Pittman, Blanche Williams, all of Poughkeepsie; and Betty McNair of Newburgh; and a brother, Edward (Stax) Widgett of Poughkeepsie.

A memorial service for Lawrence will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 30 Manchester Circle, Poughkeepsie.
