Julia Eurillo, a popular Roy C. Ketcham High Scool teacher and longtime volunteer firefighter, is being remembered for her love of teaching and service to the community.

Eurillo, 47, died of an apparent heart attack Monday.

A special education teacher, as well as head cheerleading coach and announcer for track and field, among other events, Eurillo worked for the Wappingers school district for more than 17 years and spent some 20 years as a volunteer firefighter, many of those with the New Hackensack Fire Company.

The school district called Eurillo a dedicated teacher who will be missed: "Her passion and love for teaching were evident in everything she did," the posting said. "Coach Jules, as she was often referred to, truly embodied the Ketcham spirit. No one loved RCK more than Jules!"

The New Hackensack Fire Company, where she was a life member, also paid tribute to Eurillo on their Facebook page.

"Jules, you brought us all so much, helped us all in countless ways, in your selfless manner," the fire company said. "We are all lucky to have known you and to have had you as part of our family. We ask that you, Jules, rest easy. We will take it from here, and follow in the footsteps that you have laid out before us."

The East Fishkill Police Department said that during their visits to the school she would always stop by to greet the visiting officers: "Many of the officers knew her as the "little Red Haired Teacher" when remembering her. Those of us who knew her will miss seeing her around the sporting events at the High School," the department said.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
