Brian Shayne McCavara, 68, Of Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Brian Shayne McCavara, 68, a lifelong Poughkeepsie-area resident, died Saturday, April 9, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. 

Born Oct. 1, 1947, in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late Arthur and Eileen Tully McCavara. 

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam and was the recipient of the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Purple Heart. He was a communicant of St. Peter's Church in Hyde Park, and a member of the Vail Wolff – McKenna Frye VFW Post 170 and Arlington American Legion Post 1302. 

He was a service mechanic for Love / Effron in Poughkeepsie, retiring in 2011. 

On March 18, 1973, he married the former Melody White. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Shaun McCavara and wife, Elizabeth, of Staatsburg; his daughter, Shannon Lasher and husband, Brian, of Poughkeepsie; his grandchildren, Kyle, Brendan, Hannah and Collin Lasher, of Poughkeepsie; his sister, Kathleen Sickler and husband, Ralph, of Ocala, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Douglas and Barry McCavara; and sisters, Barbara and Shawn McCavara. 

Calling hours were scheduled from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 14, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Route 9, Hyde Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Patrick Curley at 10 a.m., Friday, April 15, at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish, 185 Hudson View Drive, Poughkeepsie. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
