TOWN OF FISHKILL, N.Y. -- Arthur W. O'Connell Sr., 81 of the Town of Fishkill, passed away May 28, 2016 at Vassar Bros. Medical Center.
He was born March 11, 1935, in Brooklyn, the son of Charles P. & Isabel C. Ready O'Connell.
O'Connell married Dolores Garcia in May 1956 in Peekskilll she survives at home.
He was employed at IBM in Poughkeepsie as a manager, retiring in 1993.
O'Connell was a member of St. Martin de Porres Church and was a eucharistic minister and a volunteer eucharistic minister at Vassar Bros. Medical Center and The Avalon Assisted Living Facility. He also was involved with the Crusillo Movement. He was a past board member of Greystone Industries, serving on various committees and did public relations for Senior Net. He enjoyed being a fan of the N.Y. Giants football and the N.Y. Mets.
Survivors include his son, Arthur W. O'Connell Jr. of Fishkill; daughter, MaryAnn Gross of Peoria, Ariz.; son, Joseph (Dina) O'Connell of Petersburg, N.J.; daughter, Christie Cusack of Bayport, N.Y; sister, Maureen Lawter of Montrose; grandchildren, Brian Jr., Christian, Tracy, Gabrielle, Gregory, Isabella, Emma, Caitlin, Ryan, Grace; great-grandson, Brian III; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:15 a.m. Friday at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie. Inurnment will follow in Mary, Our Mother Columbarium in Calvary Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
