"Join us for a discussion and walking tour of the downtown district and share your ideas for opportunities and desired types of uses," organizers note.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Indotronix Building on Main Street. Folks should use the 14 Catharine St. entrance. The workshop will lead off with a short presentation about some of the issues, and a walking tour of downtown will follow.

Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes for what is planned to be a leisurely tour.

A city news release notes that objectives for updated downtown zoning include the following:

  • Maximizing fiscal productivity of land uses;
  • Diversifying the retail mix;
  • Addressing issues regarding building vacancies;
  • Considering the redevelopment potential of vacant parcels; and
  • Ensuring downtown is a high quality, accessible and affordable urban place.

"Whether you live downtown or elsewhere in the city, or whether you work downtown or simply come to enjoy restaurants and entertainment venues, we want to hear from you," organizers note. "This is your downtown, so come and be heard."
