Anthony Abbott, 36, of Wappingers Falls, was arraigned on Monday, July 8,  on two counts of first-degree murder, second-degree, murder, robbery, and burglary, said Dutchess County District Attorney William Grady.

According to Grady, Abbott is charged with intentionally causing the death of City of Poughkeepsie resident James Griffin on Dec. 30, 2017, during the course of robbing the victim and burglarizing his Wantaugh Avenue home.

Griffin was discovered on Jan. 2, 2018,  during a welfare check by the City of Poughkeepsie police after his family had not been able to contact him for several days. During the attack, Griffin underwent brain surgery and was placed in a medically-induced coma. He died on Jan. 8, 2018.

"The victim died as a result of the injuries caused by the defendant during the course of the robbery," said Grady. “I’d like to compliment the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department with conducting a thorough and challenging investigation in conjunction with Bureau Chief Robert Knapp from my office that led to this Indictment."

He is scheduled to appear in court again on July 26.
