Timothy Redmond, 25, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, attempted assault, assault and aggravated assault of a police officer, the department said.

The unidentified sheriff's deputy was stabbed while investigating a disturbance in the Town of Putnam Valley around 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 20 in Putnam Valley, said Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley Jr.

According to ABC News 7, two deputies responded to the Putnam Valley home after a report that a man had stabbed his father. Deputies were confronted by Redmond, who was still holding a knife.

A struggle ensued, and the officers attempted to use a Taser on Redmond. During the struggle, the deputy was stabbed, News 7 reported.

The deputy suffered a severed artery which, though repaired during the surgery, may require additional surgeries, Langley said.

"The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is thankful for the support from the community, NY State Police, Town of Carmel Police, Westchester County Police and the City of Peekskill Police," said Langley. "We would also like to thank the Hudson Valley Hospital Center for all their support during this time. And thank you to everyone who has sent good wishes his way. It worked!"
