Both hospitals made the list after being evaluated by nearly 5,000 hospital nationwide for U.S. News and World Report's annual guide for patients. Using data such as patient survival, rate of infection, staffing and more, the guide ranks hospitals in 25 specialties plus an overall honor roll of top hospitals.
“We are pleased that U.S. News & World Report recognized our cardiovascular teams for their excellence in the treatment of heart failure patients,” said Dr. Daniel O’Dea, vice president of cardiovascular services for Health Quest, parent organization for both hospitals.
Other facilities in the Health Quest network include Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, and several primary care and specialty centers in Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Orange counties.
“We are dedicated to the compassionate and holistic care of our patients, utilizing some of the most advanced technology and leading treatments,” O'Dea said.
In the newest U.S. News and World Report guide, 1,628 hospitals were given "high performing" ratings in one or more specialties. Hospitals are also ranked by regions within states and within major metropolitan areas, officials said.
Some of the other specialties include cancer, geriatrics, psychiatry and orthopedics. Produced by U.S. News and World Report with RTI International, a research organization, the guide is available in print and online.
“Putnam Hospital Center’s excellent results are attributable to the cooperation and teamwork of a wide spectrum of our staff,” said Dr. Lawrence Schek, the hospital’s vice president of medical affairs. “It is indicative of our dedication to our patients and their safety and also a testament to the outstanding care we offer to patients.”
