In all, 25 students attended the event, where Central Hudson employees spoke about their careers and gave a tour of the facility.

“It is empowering and inspiring to hear their stories and see how they have overcome the hurdles they’ve faced,” Beacon High School sophomore Autumn Lennon said. “It gives me the confidence that I will also have the opportunity for success if I work hard and make the right decisions.”

The visit is part of an ongoing program with the Chamber of Commerce whereby local companies expose students to the range of career opportunities in the area and what skills are quired for those jobs.

“Career Shadow Day gives students an opportunity to spend the day in a real corporate work environment,” said Diane DeDominicis, chamber director of employment services. “Jobs are changing quickly, so the students must understand what it means to be a professional in today’s environment.”

Another Career Day is planned for this month, as the facility will host high school sophomores.
