Using a weighted scale, niche.com ranked the safest schools in America, using data that includes suspensions, expulsions absenteeism and school-related arrests. Niche also factored in responses from a survey given to parents in upstate New York.

The study only contained districts upstate, which includes counties north of Westchester and Rockland. Hudson Valley districts to make the cut include:
Haldane Central School District - Putnam County (23rd overall):
- Safety grade: A+;
- Overall grade: A;
- Students: 827;
- Student/teacher ratio: 15:1;
- In-school suspensions: 7 (0.8%);
- Out-of-school suspensions: 6 (0.7%).
Spackenkill Union Free School District - Dutchess County (35th):
- Safety grade: A+;
- Overall grade: A+;
- Students: 1,426;
- Student/teacher ratio: 10:1;
- In-school suspensions: 48 (3.3%);
- Out-of-school suspensions: 27 (1.9%).
Rhinebeck Central School District, Dutchess County (43rd):
- Safety grade: A;
- Overall grade: A;
- Students: 1,066;
- Student/teacher ratio: 11:1;
- In-school suspensions: 0 (0%);
- Out-of-school suspensions: 21 (1.9%).
