More than a dozen people came out Sunday night to help restaurant owner Kurt Knox clean up the mess. “We were open for lunch the next day,” Knox said. An elderly driver apparently stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake and drove onto the sidewalk, taking out a bench, light, and Squire’s front window. Frederick L. Peckman, 83, Of Red Hook RED HOOK, N.Y. -- Frederick L. Peckman, of Red Hook, died on Tuesday, March 21, in Lake Katrine. He was 83. The Bronx native was the son of the late Fred and Katherine (Kohler) Peckman. Peckman served in the Air Force as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War. He was employed by IBM for more than three decades. An avid hiker, camper, and traveler, he also liked to tinker with and repair all sorts of things, especially Volkswagens.
