SOMERS, N.Y. – Various town departments are meeting with the Somers Town Board this week to discuss their budgetary needs for the forthcoming year.
Tuesday evening’s meeting included presentations from the Planning and Engineering Department, the Somers Public Library and the Highway Department.
The schedule for Wednesday is as follows:
- 5 p.m. - Parks and Recreation
- 5:30 p.m. - Historical Properties
- 6 p.m. - Town Court
- 6:30 p.m. - Somers Police Department
- 7 p.m. - Nutrition
Thursday’s schedule is:
- 5 p.m. - Assessor
- 5:30 p.m. - Amawalk Shenorock Water District
- 6 p.m. - Safety Inspections
- 6:30 p.m. - Finance
- 7 p.m. - Town Clerk
By the end of the week, the Town Board expects to have enough information to put together a tentative budget, which will be posted on the Somers website by the end of October, said Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy.
Work on the preliminary budget will begin in November, Murphy said. A public hearing will be held in early December before the final budget is adopted. The deadline for the final budget is Dec. 20.
“We’re working to stay within the tax cap,” Murphy said. “But we have no numbers at this point.”
The meetings this week are open to the public. They are taking place at the Somers Town House, 335 Route 202, Somers.
