According to authorities, the town of Mamaroneck has seen an "uptick" in residential burglaries over the last three months, which has also been seen as a trend across the county as well, the Town of Mamaroneck Police Department said.

In response to the burglaries, the department said it is "vigorously investigating" each incident and also working with county, state, and federal partner agencies to combat the increased criminal activity.

The department added that it is also stepping up patrols in town as well.

In addition to taking action in response to the burglaries, police also gave the following tips to residents to avoid falling victim to similar incidents:

  • Lock doors and windows in homes and vehicles;
  • Use an alarm system and arm it even for short trips outside the house, as most burglaries happen in short time spans of 10 minutes or less;
  • Do not let mail or packages accumulate on front steps or porches, as this can let criminals know that no one is home;
  • Leave interior lights on in the evening when no one is home;
  • Install motion-activated lighting outside of homes;
  • Secure valuables somewhere other than a bedroom.

Anyone who sees suspicious people or vehicles in their neighborhoods can call the department at 914-381-6100 or 911.
