Somers Teen Fights Officers After Refusing To Leave Kmart In Yorktown, Police Say

A teen from Somers has been charged after police say he refused to leave Kmart in Yorktown before fighting with officers while resisting arrest.

Yorktown Police say they received a report that a male was in Kmart (355 Downing Drive) on Sunday, Oct. 6 around 7:15 p.m. and was refusing to leave after previously being barred from the premises by store employees.

When officers arrived at the scene and asked the teen to leave, he allegedly refused and began fighting, eventually resisting arrest, police say.

The 16-year-old, whose name has been withheld due to Juvenile Delinquency status, was successfully taken into custody. He was charged with obstructing government administration, a Class A misdemeanor, resisting arrest, a Class A misdemeanor, and trespassing, a violation.

The juvenile was issued a Juvenile Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Westchester County Department of Probation on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
