Stanley Wallis, 86, Of Somers

SOMERS, N.Y. - Stanley Wallis of Somers died July 2. He was 86.

Wallis was born in Mount Vernon to Pauline Shenker and Louis Wallis, he grew up on City Island and graduated from Christopher Columbus H.S. He enlisted in the navy and served on the USS Tarawa before being discharged in 1946. He attended Brooklyn Technical College and the Arts Students League, and went on to work in sales at Gimbels in NYC.

Wallis owned S P Wallis 5 & 10 on Cedar Street in Dobbs Ferry, from 1955 until 1975, a village landmark. He was active in Kiwanis and other village activities. He went on to work in the men's department at Bloomingdales in White Plains for 20 years and moved to Heritage Hills in Somers in 1998.

Wallis is survived by his wife,  Lorraine (Chotiner) Wallis; brother, Bernard; sons, Rob of Briarcliff Manor and Eric of Westfield, N.J.; daughters-in-law, Mary Ann and Jennifer; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert; and sister, Evelyn Skalka.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 5 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings, with shiva observed from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 7, and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 8, in Briarcliff.
