Breaking News: Potentially Severe Storms Could Bring Damaging Wind Gusts, Heavy Downpours, Isolated Tornadoes

Still No Power For Nearly 500 Somers Customers

SOMERS, N.Y. - More than 474 Somers customers were still without power Wednesday afternoon, NYSEG reported.

Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy said homeowners should contact NYSEG to report that they do not have power if the utility's map shows electricity has been restored to the area. Click here for the NYSEG outage central link. The Supervisor said NYSEG estimates 90 percent of the area will have power by the end of the day Wednesday. A few isolated areas may be out until Friday.

Dry ice is currently available at Reis Park, but supplies could run short if another delivery is not received soon.

The middle school on Route 202 is open to people who need shelter. Residents are asked to bring medications, food and any other personal items they may need. Cots, blankets and a small bag of personal hygiene items are available at the shelter. The Salvation Army is providing food. Pets are not allowed and alternate arrangements can be made with Golden Bridge Veterinary Center.

Potable water can be obtained from the Granite Springs Fire House and the Amawalk Fire House. Showers are available at the NY Sports Center in Somers at the old Baldwin Place Mall.

Murphy asks residents to check on neighbors who are elderly, infirm or living alone. To reach the supervisor’s office call 914-277-3637 or 914-804-6544.
