Somers Weekend Events For Kids

SOMERS, N.Y. - If you’re looking for things to do with the kids this weekend, look no further. Here’s a list of child-friendly activities.

  • Become a Lego Architect

The Somers Library, Somers

Saturday 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Children aged six and up are invited to come to the library and spend an hour constructing magnificent buildings. There is no charge but registration is suggested. Call the library at 914-232-5717.

  • Explore the Ice House and Pond

Muscoot Farm, Somers

Sunday 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. (weather permitting): Learn how ice is made and where it was stored in the old days to last through the hot summer months. Dress in appropriate clothing for a hike to the ice pond. There is no charge.

  • Fireside Stories for Winter

Teatown Lake Reservation, Ossining

Friday 3:30 p.m.: Story time in the Carriage House is a regular feature on Friday afternoons. Children can listen to winter-themed stories by the fire, visit with one of Teatown’s animal ambassadors and go for a short walk outside. The event is suitable for ages 4 to 7 and all children must be accompanied by an adult. The fee is $5 per child. Adults are free. Call 914-762-2912, ext. 110 to make a reservation.

  • Thunder Down the Mountain!

Thunder Ridge Ski Area, Patterson

Saturday 9 am to 9 pm, Sunday 9 am to 5 p.m.: Thunder Ridge has its own snow-making equipment but the recent natural snowfall is an added pleasure. Twelve trails are open and the chair lifts are operating. Call 845-878-4100 for up-to-date details.
