Shred Your Scraps in Somers on Saturday

SOMERS, N.Y. - Now is the time to get rid of those old cancelled checks and outdated files that have been accumulating in the garage, basement, attic or -- on and in your desk. The Town of Somers, in conjunction with the county government, is providing a commercial shred mobile for use by the community.

Every household can bring up to four file-size boxes (10”x12”x15”). Large binder clips and covers must be removed. Commercial, business and institutional papers cannot be accepted.

The shredder will be at Heritage Hills Pool 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 22. The shredder may fill up before official closing time, so residents are advised to come early. In the case of inclement weather, call the county’s Recycling Helpline, 914-813-5425, for an update.

In addition to cleaning up, shredding is one of the best ways to minimize the risk of identity theft. If you opt to shred at home, you can drop off your shreddings for recycling.

Businesses and commercial institutions may contact a paper shredding company to arrange for private service.
