- There is now a place in Somers purely for the dogs. A new dog park has opened on Route 100 near the town highway garage with a grand opening ceremony set for the fall. The opening culminates a five-year journey by former Somers Councilman Harry Bolton who worked to give dogs a place to call their own.
- Shirley Acevedo Buontempo, a Somers resident who has worked in community nonprofits for more than 12 years, founded Latino U College Access in 2012 and the nonprofit recently announced its first scholarship awards this week.
- From seat belts to child restraints, Somers state police ramped up enforcement on safety at Yorktown's FDR State Park. New York State Police issued 77 tickets, a majority for child restraint violations, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday at the entrance of FDR Park In Yorktown, according to a press release.
