DeLucia Offers to Fill Vacant Somers Board Seat

SOMERS, N.Y. – Fedora DeLucia, who served seven terms as chair of the Somers Planning Board before stepping down in December, has expressed interest in filling the town board seat vacated by Harry Bolton.

“During the 2009 election, I was approached by the search committee and asked if I’d run for town board, but I stayed on the planning board. Harry ran for the seat and won.”

Speaking of her position on the planning board, DeLucia said, “Development has decreased around town, so it was a good time for me to let go." She is still on the board, although she is no longer chair.

“When I learned that Harry submitted his resignation, I was shocked,” DeLucia continued. “So I called Mary Beth Murphy to tell her I’m interested in the position. She said she’ll take it up with the town board members,” she said, referencing the town supervisor.

“If I am chosen, I’ll be happy and delighted to serve. We’ll take it from there – one thing at a time.”

Tuesday, Murphy said the board hadn't decided what it would do yet. "His seat may remain vacant or someone may be appointed to replace him. There will be a special election in November and the winner will complete the remainder of his term, which ends in 2013."
