SOMERS, N.Y. – Nearly 350 New York State Energy and Gas customers remained without power in Somers Wednesday morning, more than a week after Hurricane Sandy brought strong winds, rain and flooding to the area.
An estimated 343 out of 9,087 NYSEG customers were without power in Somers at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, down from 706 Tuesday morning.
The utility company reports 3,299 out of 32,524 New York State Energy and Gas customers were without power in Westchester at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, down from 7,251 Tuesday morning.
NYSEG officials said they are concerned that Wednesday’s predicted Nor’easter could dampen restoration efforts.
“We are closely monitoring forecasts and ensuring that we have resources and materials in place to deal with any further damage to our facilities,” said Mark S. Lynch, president of NYSEG and RG&E. “One of our concerns is that limbs and entire trees that survived the punishment of Hurricane Sandy will be weakened to the point that they are not able to withstand the next storm. More falling limbs and trees could impact our system and cause additional outages.”
