Somers Women's Club Installs New Members, Officers

SOMERS, N.Y. – At its annual meeting at the Travelers’ Rest last week, the Somers Women’s Club installed new officers and introduced new members.

The new members, who joined in May, are Sandy DeSena, Rosemary Lorenzo, Jane Zucker, Nancy Tedrowe, Cely Eustace and Linda Casale. This brings the total membership to 40.

“Anyone can become a member,” explained member Susan Berkow. “All you have to do to qualify is participate in three of our activities.”

The club’s numerous events include caring for the triangle flower garden at the intersection of Routes 100 and 138, sponsoring a blood drive, collecting food and clothing for the needy, sponsoring scholarships, and donating to many charities.

Women who live in nearby towns without women’s clubs are welcome to join, as well. The basic requirement is a desire to perform community service.

Officers of the Somers Women’s Club serve one-year terms. Sandy Oringel, the outgoing president, served two consecutive terms and was given a farewell gift in appreciation at the annual meeting. The newly elected president is Margy George.
