SOMERS, N.Y. Pumpkin picking and basket weaving are among the events planned in the Somers area this Columbus Day weekend.
Saturday, Oct. 6
Fall Festival at Harvest Moon: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hayrides, face-painting, cider doughnuts, a pumpkin patch, apple picking and live music are a few of the highlights of the Harvest Moon Fall Festival. Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard is at 130 Hardscrabble Road, North Salem.
Make a Tote Basket: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Westchester Basketmakers Guild offers a full-day workshop in basket weaving for those over the age of 15. There is a charge of $25 per person for materials. It takes place at the Somers Library on Primrose Street in Reis Park. Call (914) 232-5717 or go to the library website to register.

Farmers Market: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fresh produce, meats, cheese, soaps, candles, honey, maple syrup, flowers, fish and delicacies from local farmers and artisans are available. The Muscoot Farmers Market will continue every Sunday through October. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.
Pumpkin Pickin at Muscoot: noon to 3 p.m. Take a hayride to the pumpkin field and find the perfect pumpkin to take home. The fee for the hayride is $2 per person; pumpkin prices vary according to size. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.
Walking Tour of the Famous and Historic Tree Trail: 2 - 3 p.m. The Lasdon Park horticulturist will take visitors on a tour of historic trees. Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial is on Route 35 in Somers.
Monday, Oct. 8
Closures: Schools, libraries and government offices are closed in observance of the Columbus Day holiday.
