The incident happened on Wednesday, March 5, a little before 7 p.m., when a driver crashed into Mill Pond in Somers and was reported to be trapped in the car amid a rainstorm, the Somers Volunteer Fire Department said.

By the time first responders arrived, the driver had managed to get themselves out of the vehicle. The driver was assessed for injuries but did not require a hospital trip.

To remove the submerged vehicle, officials called in the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department's Dive Team. Emergency crews worked for about three hours to get the car out.
