SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Students will leave Our Lady of Fatima in Scarsdale for the last time on Friday as the school has been closed by the Archdiocese of New York.
The last day of school at Our Lady of Fatima will be a half-day for children on Friday. The school held an award ceremony and band concert on Thursday, with one school official calling it “business as usual” to make the school atmosphere feel “as normal as possible.”
Most of the children who have attended Our Lady will attend school in Hartsdale, according to Angela Marranzino, the school’s development director.
Our Lady was chosen as one of the New York Catholic schools that must shut its doors, the Archdiocese of New York announced in January. Some parents fought with petitions and on Facebook to keep the school open but were unable to save it.
In November, the Archdiocese announced that Our Lady of Fatima was at risk of shutting down, including four other schools in Westchester County. The school's tuition, enrollment and demographics, were taken into account in the Archdiocese’s decision.
The school has enrolled students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
