Schneiderman’s appearance -- focused on “How to Restore Public Trust and Confidence in Albany” -- is the result of collaboration between MHS social studies teacher Joe Liberti’s Advanced Placement U.S. Government and Politics class and the League of Women Voters of Larchmont/ Mamaroneck.

“In class, we’ll be discussing the attorney general’s role and the potential impact of some of the proposed policies,” said Liberti. “I work hard to make sure that our class is more than just an AP course. It’s an experience. Students are able to learn in class and then have the follow-up benefit of first-hand interaction with the real world of politics.”

Commenting on initiating this event, co-host Beth Radow, former League of Women Voters president and current board member, said, “Good government relies upon educated citizens participating in our democracy. The League of Women Voters considers this collaboration with Mamaroneck High School an ideal opportunity to engage our students, their families and community members in a dialogue on governance that can help shape the future.”

Liberti explained that he wants his students to understand the importance of the attorney general as a figure in state politics and view the evening as a valuable educational opportunity for both themselves and the broader community.

“It’s always a plus when we can figure out ways to simultaneously provide an educational opportunity such as this to our students and the community at the same time,” he says.

The evening’s format will begin with brief introductory remarks by Radow and Liberti, followed by the attorney general’s presentation and then Q&A led by both Liberti and Radow.

Audience member questions will round out the event, which ends about 9 p.m. There is no admission charge, and the evening is open to the public. Donations are invited for the Students Inside Albany program, which provides high school students with a unique three-day experience examining the important role of state government.
