A middle school student in New Rochelle reported the swastika to school security on Thursday, March 14 though it was not clear when they were carved into the bathroom stall door. The incident is under investigation, police said.

The latest incident comes approximately four months after a four-inch swastika was found at the New Rochelle High School, which prompted a police investigation. The swastika has since been removed.

In response to the latest incident, the school district announced that it will be holding assemblies and lessons in the coming weeks to “further develop a better understanding of the deep significance of such symbols and the harm caused by all acts that promote racism, discrimination, and exclusion.”

“The district’s Code of Conduct states that students may be subject to disciplinary action if they engage in conduct that endangers the safety, physical or mental health or welfare of others,” the district stated. “Anyone caught defacing school property anywhere in the district, particularly with signs of hate, will face significant consequences.”

The incident remains under investigation.
