Scarsdale Resident Charged With DWI

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A Scarsdale resident was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated on Friday afternoon after police initiated a stop for obstructing traffic, police said.

Shortly after 5 p.m., police observed Stephen M. Lynch, 48, in his 1991 Toyota with a flat tire obstructing southbound traffic on East Parkway near the intersection at Popham Road. When officers approached his vehicle, Lynch attempted to quickly flee the intersection.

According to the police report, Lynch was anxious during the traffic stop, had “bloodshot and glassy eyes,” slurred speech and alcohol on his breath. When he got out of the vehicle for a field sobriety test, he needed to be held upright to avoid falling.

Lynch told police he consumed four glasses of vodka in his Gaylor Road residence, but refused to take the field sobriety test, as well as an Alcosensor pre-screening test. Due to his level of intoxication, he was transported to White Plains Hospital for further care.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to take a breath test. He was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court on Wednesday morning.

  • On Friday, a Nelson Road resident told police that she had been the victim of fraud and grand larceny. The victim was searching on Craig's List for a condominium in Toronto and after finding one, wired the owner a deposit of $1,105 to secure it. The resident confirmed with both his and the owner’s bank that the funds had been transferred, but the owner has ceased all conversation and vanished with the funds.
