SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Scarsdale police interrupted a burglary in progress over the weekend, prompting a multi-municipality search for the suspect.

Shortly before midnight on Saturday, police were dispatched to Cushman Road when a burglar alarm was set off. Upon arrival, officers entered the residence through a damaged rear door, while a perimeter was established by law enforcement.

After officers cleared the top two floors of the home, a sergeant at the scene “advised over the radio that while checking the basement, he believed that he was hearing noise from the main floor of the house,” prompting a call for assistance.

During the investigation, police discovered that the rear door had been pried open with an unknown instrument, causing “extensive damage to the door,” according to the report. The master bedroom was ransacked and an alarm panel was ripped from the wall. Bedrooms on the second floor of the home were also searched.

Following the completion of the interior check of the property, White Plains Police set up a perimeter while patrol canvassed the area to determine a direction of flight and location of possible suspects. White Plains Police Department canine tracking dogs were unable to acquire a scent.

Police canvassed the area, taking DNA evidence of the suspect from the scene. The investigation into the burglary is ongoing.
