SCARSDALE, N.Y. - A Scarsdale man, 40, was not able to file his taxes because someone had already filed taxes in his name, police said.
The victim tried to file his taxes April 14 using the Turbo-Tax website, but it didn't go through, according to the report. He was later told that somebody had used his name, Social Security number and his date of birth to file his tax return Jan. 30, the report says.
In response, the victim notified the IRS and filed an Identity Theft affidavit, form 14039.
Police advised him to also notify the credit bureaus. A Scarsdale couple previously reported to police that someone filed taxes in their name for both 2012 and 2011.
