Scarsdale Prom Creates Lifetime Memories

Susan Wiesen, wearing a long, white dress, jumped into the "Ming Mobile," her boyfriend's gigantic, blue 1959 Oldsmobile and headed to the Scarsdale High School gymnasium for the 1968 prom.

"I remember it vividly. I remember the dress. I remember Johnny's [her boyfriend at the time] tuxedo. I remember his haircut," said Susan Wiesen, now Susan Winter. "I remember the experience of it. I remember the fun."

Although Scarsdale seniors and their guests will likely be loading into limos not Oldsmobiles and will be headed to the Surf Club in New Rochelle not the gymnasium. Thursday is the 2011 prom, when this year's graduates will make lifetime prom memories all their own.

"Try to enjoy it. It is something that comes once in your life," said Caitlin Rosner, Scarsdale '09 graduate who said prom was the happiest day of her life to date.

Jessica Levy, a Scarsdale '10 prom-goer, also had some advice for '11 grads.

"Enjoy prom itself. It is a Bar Mitzvah on steroids. Appreciate the actual prom. Don't look forward to after prom."

The red carpet event begins at Scarsdale High School at about 4:45 p.m. Visit The Daily Scarsdale Friday  to see a prom-picture gallery.
