SCARSDALE, N.Y. – For the second year in a row, Mother Nature has forced Scarsdale to cancel Halloween.
According to Scarsdale Police Lt. Thomas Altizio, there are still dozens of trees down, and countless wires that can pose dangers for trick-or-treaters. There are more than 4,200 residences and businesses without power, as well as several traffic signals and streetlights that remain dark.
“The village of Scarsdale is asking that parents and youths recognize these potential dangers, exercise common sense and suspend any Halloween plans for trick-or-treating,” he said in a statement.
As of Wednesday, Con Edison is estimating that it will be seven to 10 days before things can be returned to normal, as it is still assessing the damage. Restoration times could potentially be longer.
Scarsdale village facilities have been greatly affected by the storm, including a loss of power and communications, and are currently operating on backup power and telephone systems, Altizio said. There are additional personnel from the police, fire and Public Works Department that are waiting for Con Edison restoration crews so they can procede.
